Mary’s imagery revolves around figurative subjects, compositions, botanicals, and landscapes. Her still life works incorporate ethnic objects, such as puppets and ceramic figures, that personify with their placement in the compositions. Mary strives for a portrait like quality in her figurative works. Her work is influenced by literature, myth and poetry and draw on all three for inspiration. Mary’s botanicals include the indigenous flora and fauna that grow and thrive in her woods.

Mary Kline-Misol is committed to painting the real and brings attention to the act of painting as a process of close observation. Her paintings are the cusp where the real becomes imaginary and the imaginary becomes real. Kline-Misol translates the real by seeing into or beyond what she is looking at. Birds, trees, people, light, and flowers become archetypes within a flow of time, pointing past the real to the ideal.
